PS2 Disc Read Error - UK Protest Site
Comments
This is where visitor comments go.
I fully support your site because I've got the same problem as you. All of the games load so slow and many of them restart themselves.
I have had a few faults with my PS2. These are: sometimes making weird noises when I have been playing for 30 minutes or more, when the disk tray comes out it grinds (sometimes), the disk read error on some DVD's, and last of all not playing some PS2 games, mostly the blue disks (but I have not had this problem in the last month after I used a high quality lens cleaner). All these fault have started since August.
Hi.
I'm writing from Republic of Ireland. Tried to fix my PS2 through all the usual sites, was appalled when I saw Watchdog on BBC last week at the amount of people with this same problem. Obviously I've voided the console by opening it, but I have no warranty!
What annoys me is the same as yourself, the refusal of Sony to admit to this fault.
If you know of any other Irish people with this problem please contact me. I shall be contacting media here in Ireland.
Best of luck my friend.
Problems started after about a year. Will now only read black backed discs such as Dance Party Edition (PSX) and RegionX DVD disc.
Disc read error problems occuring even though discs are spotless and the PS2 unit has never been mistreated or moved.
Firstly, good campaign!! Well my PS2 doesn't like any DVD's, I invested in a CD cleaner at the cost of £20 hoping it would sort the problem out. It hasn't and won't play my vast collection of DVD's. I can play PS2 games, only after the CD finishes clicking and scratching everything in sight. Now my PS2 games are in such a state I cannot trade them in!!! All of my friends have PS2's and paid a similar price as me, all have seen similar problems and are disgusted. I have never mistreated my PS2. I dust it regularly and clean the fan too. I cannot afford to buy another one and £30 to get another faulty PS2 doesn't appeal to me. £200 for a piece of electronics is the most I've spent and as for the newly announced PSX, I don't know if Sony can be trusted. Xbox2 or the GameCube could be an option to be explored! Good luck with your campaign!!!
Damn thing won't play blue disks! And all tennis games are and blue based disks!
Bloody thing. Has never ever been mistreated.
This problem only started a few weeks ago and it is so infuriating. When I bought the PS2 it had only been released and cost IR380 (€500) and now only two years later I'm told I have to pay €102 to rectify a problem that obviously is a design error. I have been a loyal follower of Playststion from the very beginning and I cannot believe that Sony can disregard so many consumers and feel they can get away with it.
Superb campaign. 3 repaired PS2's later, last one 6 months ago, and guess what? Same problem again. Now its gonna cost 85 quid for another messed up ps2. What a JOKE!!!!!
Machine will not play blue or black discs. Shows Disc Read Error.
This problem seems to be a sony `FIX` for them to earn extra money on repairs.
The problems seem to happen after the `Warranty` runs out... All my mates had this problem with their PS2 - all with loading/laser faults - I had managed to get my PS2 working by laser cleaning/adjusting - took a while to sort out - but now works fine again...
Your site rocks! Anyway... My DVD based games have stopped working altogether but my CD games are still working. I cannot afford £80 to get my PS2 repaired and dont appreciate the fact that in the USA, faulty PS2's are been repaired for nowt. I have tried lens cleaners and hoovering the vents, but nowt has worked.
Music CD's Jump. It won't read video DVD's. It won't read older games.
First it started of as just freezing the game the odd time but then it would not read any disc at all. I dont know the model number as it's in the shop at the moment getting repaired. I think its disgraceful what Sony are doing. How rich is that company and still it will not spend an extra few quid to ensure their products are as good as they possibly can. Its pure greed. I for one will not be buying the PS3 when it is released. Hopefuly there will be another alternative (even if it isn't as well known as the PlayStation label).
Barely a few months after my PS2 had passed it's warranty it stopped reading discs and making strange noises whenever I opened or closed the disc drive. It will cost me something like £80 to have the lasers repaired. This is pretty shoddy quality from Sony.
It started with DVDs and the console saying it could not read disk half way through the movie. Also the mouth and speech was not syncronised. A few days ago I got Twisted Metal Black: Online (blue bottom disc) and when I tried it, it didn't work. It also happened when I rented The Sims for PS2.
Very annoying problem.
If this is in fact a Sony based problem, then they should foot the bill for replacement. Trading standards law in the UK quotes that electrical goods are covered for 5 years (if the fault is deemed to be a manufacturing error). I think that this fault does in fact come under that fore-mentioned heading.
I have not tested blue bottom PS2 discs. Loads black bottom PS1 games but not silver DVDs or PS2 DVDs.
Made Buzzing sounds and gave disc read error after buying GTA: Vice City, might not be related, but then again, it might be. Had to purchase 2nd console because it wouldn't play anything at all, recently has started playing music and video DVDs after cleaning lens area, but still refuses to play games.
Initial sporadic problems that would cause the game to restart instead of going to the next level or saving. Now it isn't able to read any disc. The PS2 makes an ugly clicking noise when a disc is inserted. This US sold system has a 90 day warranty. Thanks for the site... via Texas
Please feel free to publish everything of mine. My PS2 seems to read discs with blue bottoms perfectly. But when it comes to the ones with the white bottom, it won't read it. I spend more time trying to make it read the disc than playing. I just bought JAK 2 the first day it came out and I have not been able to play it but once. I just get so frustrated that I hit it in the top REALLY, REALLY HARD. I have opened it up, wiped the laser...NOTHING! I DO NOT WAN'T TO PAY FOR MY PS2 TO BE REPAIRED! I REFUSE! It just gets worse every frickin' day! I need to fix that stupid DISC READ ERROR thing fast or I swear I will get a bat and smash it so hard its going to land in the Sony Corp.
There just has to be a free way to repair it! If you know anything that could help me fix the problem, PLEASE E-MAIL ME! Thanks for listening and good luck in the battle against Sony.
Bloody disc read error. Now October 2003 and Playstation is just sat there. Any helpful hints?
I've had my PS2 for no more than 3 years. Even after cleaning the damn thing won't read my DVDs, CDs, DVD games and now my blue discs. I've spent many sleepless nights hoping it'd work and it fails to read 'em! I don't have the money to buy another console, the repairs etc.. Your site kicks ass! Mike B. in the USA.
When I got my PS2 it was working like a dream but it slowly got worse, and I mean very slowly. In 2000 it was fine, 2001: fine but got slightly slower in reading the disc. In 2002, again more slower but still read first time. In 2003 it began to get worse and worse until it took me about 20 goes just to get a disc to read. Damm Sony.
I informed Sony about D.R.E. I was told to send it back along with 65 quid and they would send me a reconditioned PS2 in return. What a load of b****cks, are they sure or what? Anyway good luck mate.
Although I have no real problems with playing games, they do take a while to load up and they seem to crash a lot more recently. Also certain DVDs wont play either, the dreaded disk read error message appears and on some ocassions the mesage of "Please insert a PS formatted disk" appears. Oh well... What to do?
The PS2 will say disc read error. I do not know why, please tell me how to fix it. Tell me please where I could send it in to fix it. I just payed $200.00 for it and now it does not work. Thank you for your help.
This is a disgrace and Sony should sort their act out. Why should I have to spend 40 minutes or more trying to get a game to work? People at Sony, you should be ashamed of yourselves!
What a joke! I went on the internet and found a website to fix the little bugger and it worked luckily, but now the power button doesn't work! They said I would have to pay 80 quid! So I bought a NEW gamecube! Three of my mates have the same problem!
I wanna play so many games but I can't, so I'm really p***ed.
This isn't really my PS2 but my friends'. DVD games don't work and DVDs don't work either. I think it's a SCPH-30003 model.
I am not quite sure of the exact date that I got my PS2 but I remember having it on pre-order from Argos so I was one of the first to have one in the UK.
Disc read errors. My wife just went and bought a dance mat and a game for £50 for our son for christmas, not realising it would not work (she doesn't understand these things) and because the game was wrapped and the seal was broken she can't get her money back. Thanks Sony, Merry Christmas to you.
DVD games are a bit sluggish too.
Hi! I'm from the Republic of Ireland. Great site! Bloody thing won't play blue PS2 discs! My fave game, Age of Empires 2 takes me ages to get running!
Have problem reading blue bottom discs - This is intermittant.
